The Transformation of Human Civilization through Innovation and Invention: A Quranic Perspective (Part 4)
Quran and the Pillars of Scientific Attitude
According to the Quran, nothing will change unless we change our attitudes– in a way that it may bring a shiny tomorrow (Result Oriented Efforts for the future of this world as well as hereafter) and travel to explore the consequences of the mistakes of earlier nations.
According to Quran, keeping oneself away from conjecture, strong observations and result oriented efforts are the three pillars of scientific attitude.
Quran explicitly emphasised to observe the nature and natural phenomena.––– According to Quran, those who neglect the signs and manifestation brought about by the nature are criminals as they do injustice to the laws established by God (laws of nature). Quran particularly asks people to travel around the earth and observe the natural phenomena, cultures and variations and imbibe wisdom by doing so.–
Quran completely and comprehensively reject every form of conjecture.–––––––– Quran at several places talks about evidences and says that even the messengers were sent with clear evidences and proofs (Scriptures).––– Quran forbids following the rumours. Quran also give the approach that until something is not disproved, it should not be denied. Quran has gone to the limit that conjectures; assumptions and absurdity are sin and curse those who follow conjectures, guesswork, assumptions and mere imaginations.–––
Al-Quran, Chapter-8, (Surah Anfal), Verse- 53
This is because Allah never revokes the blessings He bestows upon a people unless they change their inner selves _ (their attitudes and actions). Surely, Allah hears all, and knows all.
This reasoning is based on Allah’s justified course of action adopted as an expedient. He never withdraws nor changes His merited or unmerited favour He graced a given nation with until they change their own minds’ attitude and the disposition of their innermost being, Allah is indeed Sami’un (with unlimited audition), and ‘Alimun (knows everything with its minute detail).
 Al-Quran, Chapter-13, (Surah Ar-Raad), Verse- 11
Verily, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they (first) change themselves (their ways, their minds, their thought process and their attitudes).
 Al-Quran, Chapter-59, (Surah Hashr), Verse- 18
O you who believe, fear Allah, and everybody must consider what he (or she) has sent ahead for tomorrow. And fear Allah. Surely Allah is fully aware of what you do.
O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Be mindful of Allah and watch every-day what you have invested for your ‘Self’ for tomorrow. Again, remain conscious of the Laws of Allah (today and every day). Behold, Allah is fully aware of all your actions.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-40, (Surah Ghafir), Verse- 82
Have they not, then, journeyed about the earth and seen what happened in the end to those who lived before them? They were more numerous than these, and greater in power than these are, and stronger in the impact they left upon earth. But all that they ever achieved availed them not, and it failed to make them truly rich.
So have they not travelled in the earth that they could see how they who passed before them met their fate? They were far greater (in number) than these people and mightier in power and (much more advanced) in respect of the remains and traces (as well) that (they) have left behind in the earth (as archeological sites). But whatever they used to earn brought them no benefit.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-7, (Surah Araf), Verse- 185
Do they not look/wonder about in the skies’/space’s and the earth’s/Planet Earth’s might and power, and what God created from a thing, and that maybe/perhaps their term/time had neared/approached? So with which information/speech after It (Quran) (do) they believe?
 Al-Quran, Chapter-30, (Surah Room), Verse- 50
Look, therefore, at the evidences of Allah’s mercy! how He breathes life into the earth (making it green and flourishing) after its (state of) death. Surely, He (it is), the same (God), Who will raise the dead to life (in the Hereafter), for He is the Possessor of power over every desired thing.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-50, (Surah Qaf), Verse- 6, 7
But do they, then, never observe the sky above them (to ponder Our Knowledge and Power; and reflect) how We have constructed it and adorned it, and that there are no rifts in it?
And the earth. We have spread it out, and scattered mountains firm on it, and caused it to bring forth plants on it of all beauteous kind. (This gives us a scenario of a huge ball with carpets spread out on it held in place with weights. And the mountains serve as great water reservoirs that help grow the vegetation).
 Al-Quran, Chapter-88, (Surah Ghashiyah), Verse- 17, 18, 19, 20
Do the people not then look at the clouds and the camels, how they are made,
And (do they not observe) how the heaven is raised so high (with its vast expanse)?
And (do they not see) how the mountains have been created (raised out of the earth)?
(Nor do they consider) how the earth has been spread out (besides its round shape)?
 Al-Quran, Chapter-7, (Surah Araf), Verse- 133
So, (in order that they might reflect and be mindful) We sent upon them floods and (plagues of) locusts and vermin, and frogs, and (water turning into) blood: distinct signs one after another. Yet they remained arrogant, and they were a criminal people committed to accumulating sins.
Their System was too inefficient to fight off natural calamities, such as, floods, swarms of locusts, diseases of crops, livestock and humans. These were open signs for them to wake up to reform, but Pharaoh and his chiefs were too arrogant to accept responsibility, and too involved in luxury to take action. They were guilty of misrule.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-22, (Surah Hajj), Verse- 46
Do they never travel about the earth (and view all these scenes with an eye to learn lessons) so that they may have hearts with which to reason (and arrive at truth), or ears with which to hear (God’s call)? For indeed it is not the eyes that have become blind, it is rather the hearts in the breasts that are blind.
Do they not walk/move/ride in the earth/Planet Earth, so it (can) be for them hearts/minds they reason/comprehend with it, or ears they hear/listen with it, so that it truly does not blind/confuse the eye sights/knowledge and but that the hearts/minds which (are) in the chests (innermost) blind/confuse.
Have they -these infidels- not journeyed through the land and employed the faculty of reason in forming conclusions and looked with their minds’ eyes to realize as much as their hearts may comprehend and their ears may hear! Indeed, it is not the eyes of the body that go blind but it is the eyes of the hearts in the breasts and those of the mind.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-29, (Surah Ankabut), Verse- 20
Say, ‘Travel over the land and then observe how He has originated the creation.’ Then Allah shall bring about the genesis of the Hereafter. Indeed Allah has power over all things.
Al-Quran, Chapter-10, (Surah Yunus), Verse- 36
Most of them follow nothing but conjecture. Surely, conjecture cannot in the least substitute for the truth. Assuredly, Allah knows best what they do.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-4, (Surah Nisa), Verse- 157
They know nothing (what the truth is) except (that they are) following fancy.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-6, (Surah Anam), Verse- 148
Do you have any (authentic) knowledge which you may bring forth for us? (If so, then present it).’ You (abandoning knowledge of certitude) follow only assumptions and speculations and tell sheer lies (based on guesswork).
 Al-Quran, Chapter-6, (Surah Anam), Verse- 116
And if you obeyed what the majority of people (dwelling) on earth say, they would lead you astray from the path of Allah. They simply follow assumptions and speculations (instead of truth and certitude) and remain engaged in mere guesswork (and telling lies).
 Al-Quran, Chapter-10, (Surah Yunus), Verse- 66
Behold! Verily, all creatures in the heavens and all creatures in the earth belong to Allah. (All are His subjects). So, what do they follow who call upon “partners” of Allah? They follow nothing but the conjecture of others, and themselves do nothing but guess.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-2, (Surah Al-Baqrah), Verse-78
And (some) amongst them are illiterate (as well) who do not know (even the bare minimum about the meaning and connotations of) the Book (except hearsay and false hopes). But depend upon empty hopes and are guided by mere conjecture and guess-work.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-34, (Surah Saba), Verse- 53
They disbelieved in it before and indulged in conjectures from far away.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-43, (Surah Zukhruf), Verse- 20
But they have no knowledge of the matter and are simply conjecturing.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-45, (Surah Jathiya), Verse- 24
And they have no knowledge of it, they only conjecture.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-10, (Surah Yunus), Verse- 68
You have no evidence with you of this (false allegation). Do you attribute that (thing) to Allah which you (yourselves) do not know?
 Al-Quran, Chapter-18, (Surah Kahf), Verse- 22
So argue not about them except for what you do know, and make no enquiries concerning them with any of the people.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-10, (Surah Yunus), Verse- 74
Then after him We sent many Messengers to their respective nations and they brought them clear evidence of the Truth. They pre-emptively refused to accept the Message. And they were not the kind of people who would rethink their decisions. Our Law puts a seal on the hearts of those who trespass the bounds of reason.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-29, (Surah Ankabut), Verse- 35
Assuredly We have left behind a clear sign for a people who use their will, reason and understand.
 Al-Quran, Chapter24, (Surah Noor), Verse- 12
Why did it not happen that when you heard of it (the slander), the believers, both men and women, would think good of their own people and say: ‘This is obviously a fabricated accusation (based on falsehood)’?
Al-Quran, Chapter-45, (Surah Jathiya), Verse- 32
And when it was said: ‘The promise of Allah is true, and there is no doubt about (the coming of) the Last Hour,’ you used to say: ‘We do not know what the Last Hour is; we regard it nothing but a conjecture; nor do we have any faith in it.’
 Al-Quran, Chapter-49, (Surah Hujurat), Verse- 12
O believers! Avoid most conjectures/assumptions/suspicions. Indeed, some conjectures are sins (liable to punishment in the Hereafter).
 Al-Quran, Chapter-51, (Surah Dhariyat), Verse- 10
Ruined are those who tell lies out of assumption and conjecture.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-53, (Surah Najm), Verse- 28
And they know nothing about it. They follow only assumption, and surely assumption serves no purpose in comparison with certitude.
 Al-Quran, Chapter-53, (Surah Najm), Verse- 23
They follow only whims and conjectures/assumptions/suspicions and the desires of their (ill-commanding) selves, whereas guidance has already come to them from their Lord.
